What European BMW fans have enjoyed for many years, US consumers are now experiencing. Clean, fuel efficient and powerful BMW diesel cars. With the of the BMW 335d and the BMW X5 Diesel in the USA, it will not be long before we see additional BMW diesel engine cars arrive in America. In fact, we encourage you to view our updated collection of BMW diesel technology videos on this website. View the BMW Color brochure on its diesel 3-Series cars.
Efficiency may be the buzzword of the moment in the automotive industry, but it’s hardly a new concept at BMW. We’ve always lived by the EfficientDynamics philosophy – less emissions without sacrificing performance.
So when the government announced its program to reward Americans for driving more fuel-efficient cars, we were inspired to join the cause. Now through January 4, 2010, BMW will give you a $4,500 Eco Credit toward your purchase of a 335d or an X5 xDrive35d – the most fuel-efficient vehicles in their class.
But the savings go beyond this limited-time offer. You’ll also receive a $900 tax credit4 on the 335d and $1,800 on the X5 xDrive35d. And like any BMW, both diesel vehicles come with 4 years/50,000 miles of zero-cost maintenance. Plus, its best-in-class efficiency will save you approximately $2,000 in fuel costs over four years.
The question now is not should you or shouldn’t you. Instead, it’s simply: Are you in the mood for a sleek, all-new sedan or a versatile Sports Activity Vehicle?
The new BMW Diesel cars showcase BMW’s BluePerformance technology. Like its German competitors, BMW is a major player in the diesel car market. BMW has been producing diesel engines since 1983. This is the first time that BMW has brought a diesel model to the U.S.
Diesel models account for approximately 65 percent of BMW’s European sales. With Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen bringing diesels to the US market in 2008, BMW did not want to be left out in the cold should diesel-powered vehicles catch on here.
We hope it is not too long before we see some other diesel powered cars to North America. We would love to see a 1 Series diesel in the USA like the popular 120d which gets around 55 miles per gallon.

BMW 120d is the world’s first four-cylinder engine with Variable Twin Turbo. Two different-sized turbochargers are deployed sequentially to dispense extra power right across the rev range.
At low revs, the small turbocharger works on its own to provide instantaneous throttle response.
Third-generation common rail injection ensures exceptional performance in hand with unbeatable fuel consumption levels and fuel efficiency at 55 miles per gallon. And thanks to the engine block now being made solely of aluminum, weight is reduced by an enormous 20 kg.
